Dans ce dernier volet de la trilogie, Marty McFly découvre que le Dr. Emmett Brown est resté coincé en 1885 après avoir été envoyé là-bas par inadvertance. Marty décide de retourner dans le passé pour sauver Doc. En 1885, Doc est tombé amoureux d'une institutrice, Clara Clayton, et Marty doit non seulement sauver son ami, mais aussi s'assurer que l'histoire ne soit pas altérée. Leur aventure les mène à travers le Far West, où ils doivent affronter des bandits et des défis inattendus.
